Joint Council, along with our partners Mead Johnson Nutrition Foundation and SPOON Foundation, launched OrphanNutrition.org, a website serving as an international portal of resources for the global program A Child’s Best Start earlier this year. We have recently added a new section which contains information meeting special needs with background on common conditions such as cleft lip and palate, low birth weight and cerebral palsy.
Meeting Special Needs Preview:
When children are born with special needs it becomes more important than ever for caretakers to understand how to care for these children. Special needs can be a result of different factors, sometimes inherited or caused by changes to the environment in the womb. Unfortunately, large percentages of the world’s special needs children live in institutions and many do not receive proper care and nutrition to grow up healthy.
In our ongoing effort to provide the best information, we’ve made some additions to the special needs section that include:
- Fetal Alcohol Syndrome
- Severe Malnourishment
- Congenital Heart Disease
