October 24, 2013 – Day 5 - Thank you!

As I leave Haiti, I have a confession to make.  I don’t write about my day on trips like this just to get the message of orphaned, and vulnerable children out there further.  I don’t write them to get people fired up about the cause.  I don’t write them so people will donate to help Joint Council’s work (but if you’d like to make a donation – CLICK here :) .  I write as a personal form of therapy.  I write so that after a long day I can sleep better at night, having taken everything from the day and spewed it onto digital paper.  I then give it to Joint Council because I know it’s good for the cause – but the reason behind the writing is totally selfish…which is why it’s important that I tell you one very important thing…Thank you!

Ten years ago this coming June I held a little HIV+ orphaned girl in my arms as she passed away.  Ever since then, she and the thousands of children I’ve met on my journeys to orphanages, care centers, foster care and on the streets around the world have been the reason I put my heart and passion into my work.  Their faces have been my guiding light…pushing me on when I’m tired and frustrated and all I want to do is quit.  But today I realized that there is something else that keeps me going, something I had never thought of – you, your support and love.  To see that other people get just as fired up and passionate when they hear about Rene or any of the other children…to see your passion ignited or rekindled…to see you as determined as I am to find solutions, it’s a great source of stick-to-it-ness that I need.  I know that there are an army of people with me, wanting to help as well.  So, thanks for your support, for your passion and for your love.  Looking forward to continuing to work together for children in need!
