**Annual budget is defined as “expenses incurred that relates to or supports activities, programs, or issues that support the organization’s mission.”  This includes all programs and services (examples include foster care, domestic adoption, orphan care and other services to children and families), not just intercountry adoptions.

**International budget is defined as “any expense incurred either inside or outside the United States which relates to or supports activities, programs, or issues outside the United States.” This includes all programs and services, not just intercountry adoptions.

To our prospective Partners:

As we approach another year of ensuring more children live in families, we hope that you will join us as a valuable Partner of Joint Council.  In 2011, through our collective advocacy, we’ve made unprecedented strides for children in need.  This can be seen in the Emergency Campaign for Ethiopia, Orphan Nutrition Program, and Adoption Nutrition Program which were all introduced in 2011. However, hundreds of thousands of children are still in need and these advocacy efforts are just a drop in the bucket of the work that needs to be done to ensure more children live in a safe, permanent and loving families.  Together, your voice can join ours and our collective voices can change the lives of these children.  We need your voice to advocate for aggressive and stronger governmental policies for children. The children need us to act as one, committed to their health and well-being today and every day.

We believe that with your voice, and the voice of others, we will see more children living and thriving within their family of birth, more children receiving better care while they are living outside of a family, more children spending shorter amounts of time outside of a family, more children being served through domestic and intercountry adoption, and more children living joyful, purposeful lives.  We cannot get to a future where children do not have to beg for a family unless we, those who believe that a child’s right to a family is paramount, are united with one, clear voice. We must stand together. We hope that you will stand with us.

In 2012 and beyond we have big plans to ensure our community is serving more children instead of less and standing firm against those who deny children the right to a permanent family.   Our plans include increased funding opportunities to organizations providing innovative, life-changing work for children in need.  In 2011, for the first time in 35 years, Joint Council provided grants to our partners. In 2011 we issued 23 grants in excess of $247,000. These grants were provided to partner organizations big and small and diverse in experience and expertise. Our goal is to provide $600,000 in grants in 2012 and $1.7m by 2015. As a coalition of international child welfare organizations and in an effort to build upon existing collaborations, funding will remain available to Joint Council Partners only.

So, why should you be part of this voice?  With limited resources, why should you allocate a portion of your funds to partnership in Joint Council?  Both are legitimate, yet answerable, questions.

Partnership pays for itself…and sometimes, even more!  Partnership includes discounts on our education program, including our Annual Symposium, held in New York City from April 16-18, 2012, and access, through our 23 listservs, to over 6,000 individuals working on preserving and creating families.  And as noted above, we are now supporting our mission by funding your programs for children!

Be a part of the strongest – and only – international advocate for every child’s right to a family.  Our coalition is the only international advocate that includes intercountry adoption into the continuum of care needed to ensure children live in a permanent and safe family.  If that is what you support, then join us today.

For your convenience, you can access a partnership application preparation-questionnaire that outlines all the information that the partnership application will require (see Partnership Application Documents section found at the bottom of this page).

All of us at Joint Council are dedicated to the long—term sustainability of Joint Council and to an expansion of our programs and services.  In 2012 we will announce new projects and programs which will enhance our work for the children and families that we, as a coalition, serve.  Please accept our personal request for you to join us for 2012 and beyond.

Finally, thanks for your commitment to ensuring that every child lives, grows and thrives in a permanent family.  We hope you accept our invitation to be a valued Partner of Joint Council in 2012.
